First Avenue
Street guide, Selsey
One of a series of numbered avenues on the eastern side of Selsey, running parallel to the coast. First Avenue is a residential street of bungalows and houses, many dating from the interwar and early post-war period. The numbered avenues were developed as the town expanded eastwards towards Pagham Harbour. The streets have a regular, planned character, with uniform plot sizes and a grid-like layout. First Avenue is close to East Beach and the fishing fleet, and residents can reach the shingle in a few minutes' walk. The proximity to the coast makes these streets popular with downsizers and retirees moving to Selsey for the seafront lifestyle.
