West Beach
Quiet shingle beach with sea views towards the Isle of Wight and access to Medmerry
The stretch of coast on the western side of Selsey, facing south-west into the English Channel. West Beach is quieter than East Beach and does not have the fishing fleet, but it offers good walking along the shore towards the Medmerry nature reserve. The beach is predominantly shingle with some sand exposed at low tide. Sea defences protect the properties along the front, and the coast path runs along the top of the defences giving elevated views out to sea. On a clear day, the Isle of Wight is visible to the west. The residential streets behind West Beach are predominantly bungalows and retirement properties, giving the area a peaceful, settled character. The proximity to the Medmerry RSPB reserve makes this part of Selsey popular with birdwatchers, particularly during migration seasons when the coastal scrub and shingle attract passage birds.
