East Beach
Working fishing beach with boats, fishermen's huts and fresh seafood
The shingle and sand beach on the eastern side of Selsey, running from Selsey Bill northwards towards Pagham Harbour. East Beach is where Selsey's fishing fleet operates, with boats launched from and hauled up onto the beach using tractors and winches. The fishermen's huts and equipment line the back of the beach, and fresh crab and lobster can sometimes be bought direct from the boats. The beach is also popular with walkers, swimmers and dog walkers. At low tide, patches of sand are exposed between the shingle banks, and the views across to Pagham Harbour and Bognor Regis are clear on a fine day. East Beach Road runs along the back of the beach, with residential properties, bungalows and some holiday accommodation on the landward side. The working character of the fishing beach gives East Beach a distinctive flavour quite different from more manicured resort beaches.
